NICEIC, what does it mean?

The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) is one of several organisations which regulates the training and work of electrical enterprises in the UK. The NICEIC is one of several providers given Government approval to offer Competent Person Schemes to oversee electrical work within the electrical industry. It is a privately owned body (the owner being the Electrical Safety Council, a registered charity) and not a government organisation, as often incorrectly assumed.

Domestic Installer, what does it mean?

Domestic installations have been included within the scope of the Building Regulations since January 2005, known as Part P. Any new electrical installations, together with certain alterations  to existing installations within a domestic situation, have to be inspected to comply with strict electrical safety performance standards. Many allied trades such as kitchen fitters, plumbers, gas fitters, fire and security engineers are indirectly linked to the electrical industry and it is these trades that the domestic installer qualification is aimed at.
